The copyright reform refers to the ongoing review of copyright at the European Union level through the Proposal of a Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market. This review is conducted by the three EU institutions, namely the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, which comprises the governments of the EU member states.

Different texts (amendments) are on the table in the European Parliament and the Council, whilst the European Commission tries to preserve as much as possible of its original proposal.

We believe in the principle of copyright as a legal tool to protect creators. It is because we acknowledge and celebrate the value that copyright represents for creators and for the advancement of culture, innovation and the economy, that we urge policy makers in the EU to create a legal framework that safeguards the best interests of the creators as we make our way through the first quarter of the 21st century and onward.

As we rethink copyright, a fair environment needs to be enabled for both creators and the sharing and preservation of knowledge to thrive. This will be possible through a balanced framework that does not aim to favor certain individual interests over others, but rather tries to promote the general interest first and foremost. Vox scientia aims to empower the knowledge community around Europe to unite their voices and help shape a balanced copyright.

We are inviting individuals and organisations to support the campaign in a number of ways.
